Employees leaving the containment building had to pass through this radiation detector before they were allowed out. If they were contaminated they first scrubbed down with ever more aggressive detergents to remove radiaoactive particular matter. If the detector stil tripped medical staff inside the containment went over every centimeter of their body to find and remove radioactive materials. The tour guide had been in that situation when he worked there: When he cut some piping inside the containment a slightly activated steel splinter ended up in his eye. So after several fruitless atempts at scrubbing he was finally admitted to the small clinic inside the containment building where a medic found and removed said metal splinter.
